Day 19: Godwink

Read: Jeremiah 29:11

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

Understand:

  1. Who knows what plans are in place for our life?
  2. What are God’s plans for us? What will they give us?

Listen: The Urban Dictionary defines Godwink as “An occurrence so odd and out of the ordinary, it had to be put in place by God; A wink from God letting you know you’re headed in the right direction.” Have you ever experienced something that was so unbelievable that you know it wasn’t just a coincidence? Recently, I was talking to someone who I now consider a friend. We had never met before but they were explaining to me that they had been praying about something for a while and just when they thought it was going to become a reality, the doors seemed to close. This happened three times in a row to them. Then, finally, what they had been praying for came into fruition and it was so much better than the first three things that they had thought would have been great. I love this! In my opinion, this is God giving us a hint of what He is about to do while also teaching us to be patient and trust that He is doing something amazing for us. This isn’t always easy to sit back and watch but it’s worth the wait.

Our verse for today tells us that God has a plan for our lives and His plan includes goodness and hope. He does not intend evil to come upon us, although, living in a fallen world, this often happens, but He will lead us out if we will trust Him and wait for Him to provide. Godwinks can be that little bit of reassurance to us that God is fully in control and He is active in our lives. This doesn’t mean we won’t go through troublesome times. Quite the contrary, we know we will. But, it does mean that God will see us through everything and, sometimes, He may even make it so evident that He is at work, that it takes our breath away.

This is, perhaps, one of my favorite pictures. (We saw this on Day 15 as well.) I’m not even sure who the artist is but what a great way to look at how Jesus is with our lives. We hold onto things sometimes because we think it can’t get much better than it is or because we are afraid of what may happen if we let go and let God take it. Just remember that God is working for the good for those who love Him and have been called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28).

Pray: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for those moments when we can really see You at work in our lives. Thank you for the surprises that sometime leave us in awe and for those moments when You simply reassure us that You are in control and that You’ve got this. Help us to see You more and trust You more, knowing that You always want good things for us. In Jesus name we pray, amen.
