Read: John 14:27
“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.
Understand:
- What do you think is the difference between the peace that we receive from Christ and what we try to get from the world?
- What should we not let our hearts be?

Take a moment to really look at the photo for today’s devotional. Perhaps one of my favorite novels ever is “Peter Pan” by J.M. Barrie. There is so much hidden meaning in this novel besides the surface story of a boy who never wants to grow up. I find myself referencing this novel quite a bit in my writings so of course I am going to encourage you to read it. Yes, even if you are an adult. There are bits of inspiration simply buried within the words.
When I think back to my life as a child or even as a young adult, I feel like I had such dreams about my future. I’m not complaining about my current life but things seemed so attainable when I was younger. It was like the sky was the limit but I had to take a step forward to pursue it. What happens between those moments when we are children and want to fly and those moments when we become an adult and develop fear? I don’t think I ever worried when I was climbing a tree when I was a child. But, I do remember wanting to climb the tree and having the courage to try. Did I always succeed? Nope. I never climbed really high like other kids because I was afraid of falling. The point is, when I think about this quote, it makes me consider how many of us won’t take that first step to simply try. Why are we afraid? Are we really so fearful of failing that we won’t even try? Our scripture verse for today tells us that we are not to be afraid. Another scripture that I think of is Jeremiah 29:11. God has a plan for us and that plan is for good things.
I just want to encourage you to think about the picture and these verses. What if you took that step? What if you weren’t afraid? Would you be able to fly?
Pray: Dear Heavenly Father, help us to embrace the peace that You give us and to not let our fears control us. Help us to remember that You desire good things for us just as You promised in scripture. Help us to be brave and take a step without fear. In Jesus name we pray, amen.
