Read: Proverbs 17:22
“A cheerful heart is good medicine . . .”
Understand:
- What is good medicine?
- Why should we laugh?
Listen: I have been known to laugh at really ridiculous things. For example, my youngest son showed me a video one time of a person who took a flying leap into a snowbank. Thinking they were going to sink down into it and disappear, you can imagine the surprise when the person simply stuck on the top of the snowbank after landing with a thud. Now, this might not be funny to many people, but I think I laughed at that video for thirty minutes nonstop, especially when my son kept starting it over and over. The more I watched, the funnier it got. Then, when I went to bed, I started thinking about it again, and laughed so hard my husband started laughing not because of the video but because he couldn’t figure out why I thought it was so funny. I’m not really sure why this phenomenon occurs with me, but I think it’s a gift straight from heaven. Scripture tells us that a “cheerful heart is good medicine” and my laughing at ridiculous things not only brings me joy but it also makes my family joyful. There are so many benefits to laughing. I just want to encourage you to find something, one thing, each day that makes you laugh. It might be something completely ridiculous and only funny to you. That’s okay. Enjoy the medicinal purposes of a good laugh.
I found the images above on Google. Again, author’s are unknown but I just hope they make you giggle.
Pray: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for laughter. Thank You for giving us something that can provide healing to our souls. Help us to take a moment, as much as possible, to laugh. In Jesus name we pray, amen.
