Read: Ecclesiastes 3:11
“He has made everything beautiful in its time. . .”
Understand:
- This verse emphasizes that everything needs time to become something beautiful. How does this verse make you look at your own life?
Listen: Patience. Probably not one of my best virtues. The Bible tells us that through our patience, we develop better abilities to practice endurance. Endurance eventually shapes our character. As followers of Christ, we want our character to reflect His image and His qualities. So, the practice of patience is more important than us just being personally disciplined. It is for the purpose of refining ourselves to be more like Christ. Still, I want to focus on the last part of our scripture verse today to help us get a better look at the importance of being patient. Ecclesiastes 3:11 tells us that “everything” is “made . . . beautiful in its time.” In its time. Focus on that for a moment. It takes time for God to work in our lives. When we try to rush through without allowing Him to help us develop, then things can become a bit off-kilter.
I look at this kind of like a flower. Such a small seed can blossom into a beautiful flower but there is a process that must take place for it to grow. We can see the seed with the little break through of the plant and it begin sprouting. It’s not always easy for the flower either. Sometimes, storms come along and the little sprout looks like the raindrops are beating against it so mightily that it couldn’t possibly survive. Not only does it survive, it becomes stronger and the roots become more firmly planted into the foundation that will keep it healthy. There might be several storms that come along. Afterall, most flowers are trying to begin growing in the spring when storms are more abundant. Again, the storms continue to make it stronger, until one day, that little sprout has opened up to become a beautiful flower. . . in its own time.
Life seems to be like this little flower. We are planted in a place and we are going to grow but there are often storms that seem to pound us but it is those same storms that make us stronger and remind us to firmly plant ourselves in Christ as our foundation. Only then can we continue to grow and become something beautiful. It’s a process that requires patience but our patience allows us to develop while allowing God to work miracles in our life.
Pray: Dear Heavenly Father, the storms of this life aren’t always fun but we know that through them we become stronger and firmly planted in our faith in You. Be with us Lord and help us to be patient as You work in our lives and make us something beautiful. In Jesus name we pray, amen.
