Day 55: Shhhhh

Listen: Below, you’ll find the lyrics to the song Breathe by Jonny Diaz. Take a minute to read through them. This song sometimes screams out to me when I allow the hubbub of this world to take over my life. What are your thoughts on it?

I rearranged today’s devotional a bit in order to get your mind thinking about the hustle and bustle that often claims precious moments of our life. Following this, you will see several scripture verses that should help you understand how God wants us to look at things.

“Alarm clock screaming

Bare feet hit the floor

It’s off to the races

Everybody is out the door

I feel like I’m falling behind.

It’s a crazy life

Ninety miles an hour

Going fast as I can

Trying to push a little harder

Trying to get the upper hand

So much to do in so little time

It’s a crazy life

It’s ready, set, go

Its another wild day

When the stress is on the rise

In my heart I feel you say

Just breathe, just breathe

Come and rest

At my feet

And be, just be

Chaos calls

But all you really need

Is to just breathe

Third cup of Joe

Just to get me through the day

Want to make the most of time

But I feel it slip away

But I wonder if there is something more

To this crazy life

I’m busy busy busy

And it’s no surprise to me

That I only have time for me me me

There’s gotta be something more

To this crazy life

I’m hanging on tight

To another wild day

When it starts to fall apart

In my heart I feel you say

Just breathe, just breathe

Come and rest

At my feet

And be, just be

Chaos calls

But all you really need

Is to take in fill your lungs

It’s the peace of God

That overcomes

Just breathe

Let you weary spirit rest

Lay down what’s good

 And find what’s best

Just breathe (just breathe,  just breathe,  just breathe)

Come and rest

At my feet

And be just be

Chaos comes

But all you really need

Is to just just breathe (just breathe)”

Read:

Isaiah 30:15: “For thus said the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel, ‘In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength. But you were unwilling,’”

Psalm 46:10: “Be still, and know that I am God.”

Exodus 14:14: “The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.”

Psalm 131:2: “But I have calmed and quieted my soul. . .”

Zechariah 2:14: “Be silent, all flesh, before the Lord, for he has roused himself from his holy dwelling.”

Isaiah 40:31: “But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”

Romans 12:2: “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

John 16:33: “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

My question for you? Are you listening to what God is trying to say? Listening. Really listening. Not just reading the words.

Pray: Dear Heavenly Father, help us to listen to Your word. Help us to learn how to be still and not only listen but also pull ourselves away from chaos so we can truly hear You. We do not have to conform to this world and those things which try to knock us off our feet. Help us to just be silent before You. In Jesus name we pray, amen.
