Day 8: Helping Hand

Read: Hebrews 2:13-18

“Again, I will trust in Him. And again, Here I am with the children God gave me. Now since the children have flesh and blood in common, He also shared in these, so that through His death He might destroy the one holding the power of death – that is, the Devil – and free those who were held in slavery all their lives by the fear of death. For it is clear that He does not reach out to help angels, but to help Abraham’s offspring. Therefore He had to be like His brothers in every way, so that He could become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. For since He Himself was tested and has suffered, He is able to help those who are tested.”

Understand:

  1. When we accept God’s gift of salvation and believe in Jesus, whose children are we considered?
  2. What has he also freed us from?
  3. Why was it important for Jesus to experience life as we live it?

Listen:

I want to live in a way that glorifies Christ. This, for sure, isn’t always easy. We are made in His image and we are supposed to walk as He did, displaying the Fruit of the Spirit (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control -Galatians 5:22) Scripture tells us that we aren’t alone in our journey of trying to live as Christ did. When He came to earth, He experienced things as we do. He was tempted (Matthew 4:1); He was made fun of (Matthew 13:54-57); He experienced grief (Matthew 14:1-13); He was questioned (Matthew 21:23); He corrected people of their wrongdoing (Matthew 23:1-7); He experienced anger (Matthew 23:33-36); He was betrayed (Matthew 26:47-50); He experienced anguish (Matthew 26:36-39); He was abandoned (Matthew 26:56); He was rejected by those who said they loved Him (Matthew 26:69-75); He was physically beaten (Matthew 27:26); He was mocked (Matthew 27:27-31); He was crucified (Matthew 27:35); He experienced despair (Matthew 27:46); and He experienced death (Matthew 27:50). Hebrews 2:18 explains why He did these things: “For since He Himself was tested and has suffered, He is able to help those who are tested.” He knows how to help us through everything we go through because He has already experienced it. He is faithful and our advocate (1 John 2:1).

1 John is a letter than is written so beautifully for believers. In Chapter 1, we learn that this letter was written so we can experience total joy! Let’s end with the reasons for writing that are stated in this letter.

“I am writing to you,

little children,

because your sins have been

forgiven on account of

His name.

I am writing you, fathers,

because you have come to know

the One who is

from the beginning.

I am writing to you, young men,

because you have had victory

over the evil one.

I have written to you, children,

because you have come to know

the Father.

I have written to you, fathers,

because you have come to know

the One who is

from the beginning.

I have written to you,

young men,

because you are strong,

God’s word remains in you,

and you have had victory

over the evil one.”

Pray: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for the victory we have because of You. You have walked in our shoes and know how to help us. Open our eyes that we may see Your faithfulness and accept Your help. Protect us from those who try to trick us into thinking we are alone in this battle. Help us to live as You lived and be strong because You have conquered the world already. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
